Family Tree
Design for a Private House in Dubai
This architectural proposal envisions a modern family home for Dubai that harmonises cutting edge technology with deep-rooted cultural traditions, utilising innovative materials and passive design strategies to create a comfortable, energy-efficient living environment.

At its core, the house integrates advanced environmental design principles, responding intelligently to the harsh climatic conditions of the region. Natural ventilation, guided by prevailing wind patterns, is maximised through strategically positioned openings with articulated louvre systems, and a sequence of vertical courtyards, forming integrated wind towers. The building envelope incorporates high thermal mass materials, allowing the structure to absorb and gradually release heat, stabilising indoor temperatures and reducing reliance on mechanical cooling systems.

The architectural language reflects the identity of the modern Emirati family—progressive, connected, and forward-looking—yet remains grounded in the rich cultural heritage of the region. Traditional elements such as screened facades, inward-facing layouts, and majlis-style gathering spaces are reinterpreted through a contemporary lens, fostering both privacy and sociability in a manner that resonates with regional customs.

A key feature of the proposal is its modular construction system, designed for speed, consistency, and cost-efficiency. This approach allows for future expansion, with the living quarters able to grow vertically and tree-like, offering flexibility for growing families and evolving lifestyle needs.
