Trace
Conceptual Design for Venice Biennale Pavilion
A traceable object is our fundamental idea for this pavilion, which can record visitors' activities, as a metaphor for how it will continue to be an international, diverse and inclusive space.
A thin translucent thermal-sensitive veil pierces through the building in an impossible and seemingly aggressive gesture. The original hierarchy of the spaces is fragmented, and it is not immediately clear how to pass through the pavilion. Although spaces are visible behind the veil, the normal flow of the space is altered and uncertain; rooms become uncomfortably cramped; previous spaces which were once accessible are out of reach. The pavilion requires our reassessment of the space in order to traverse it.
